Upcoming Works

This ongoing project takes the form of a hybrid film and a research paper engaging with Alwatwata, an ancient (now scarcely practiced) depilatory method which uses bat’s blood as an anointment to deter hair growth. This practice is commonly performed on female-born infants across Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, Palestine, and Egypt. This practice is sustained through oral accounts yet remains largely overlooked, often dismissed as superstition. The work addresses this research gap by tracing Alwatwata’s entanglements across bodies, materials, and species through sensorial and speculative encounters.
